Science - Filtering

Hello today in science class we are learning about filtering.
Filtering is about filtering things and separate different sizes particles. Filtering only works with only particles of different sizes. Today's experiment is we are making a mixture and separating it. The 2 chemical we are using is copper sulfate, a light blue liquid, and the other liquid is sodium carbonate.

Hypothesis:
I think that when we mix the 2 chemicals the color will be light blue and I think will separate.

Method:

1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.

3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel

4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.

5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Observation:

When we add the 2 chemicals it went dark blue and become cloudy. When we put it through the filter the liquid went clear and see through. The sodium sulficate was the clear liquid in the clinical flask and the copper carbonate was the solid blue cloudy bit on the top that didn't filter through.

Do Now Week 4

When you think of New Zealand sport you'll probably think of rugby. Most of the good rugby players come from New Zealand. Players like Richie McCaw come from New Zealand. Most of the best rugby teams also come from New Zealand. Rugby is the most definitive sport in New Zealand.New Zealand poised to become sole host of 2020 Rugby Championship | Rugby Championship | The Guardian

Cup Challenge

The IP skill I used today was being inclusive. The warm fuzzies I used was that was good. I said it to my group after we have done the challenge. I was being inclusive by letting the people in my team join in on the challenge and also myself. Today I worked with Roberto, Dani, Angus, and Kaunteya. We worked well together by working together and communicating when we did the cup challenge. If I got to do the activity again I would use the same strategy me and my group use to move the cup to the other table with 5 string and 1 rubber band. I worked at level 3 fr the Hellison Behaviour Model.

Dissolving

 Hello, readers!

Today in chemistry class we are doing an experiment.

Things that are Soluble in water.
Sugar, raro, milo, flour

Things that are insoluble in water.
Chair, human, metal, spoon

3 ways you could speed up dissolving.
Hot temperature, stir, size

For our mini experiment, we put a spoon of sugar into 3 beakers to see which one dissolve faster. The first beaker has cold water the second beaker has hot water and the third beaker has hot water but we also stir it.

The beaker that has hot water and we stir it dissolve the fastest because hot water has more energy than cold water so the molecules in the hot water move faster and they come in contact with the sugar more often so it makes the sugar dissolve faster. When you stir it breaks the sugar and it makes the sugar dissolve faster.

Drawing Game

The IP skill that I used today was verbal communication. The warm fuzzies I used was good job. I said good job to my partner Roberto. Using verbal communication is useful in this game because we have to describe whats the picture is and your friend has to draw it so you will need to speak clearly. Today I work with Roberto. We work well together because we cheer each other on and motivate each other. I got to do this activity again I would use a harder picture for my friend to draw. I worked at level 3 for the Hellison Behavior Model.

Students should have more mufti days(Do now Week 3)

In my opinion, I agree that students should have more mufti days. Having mufti day means that students could express themselves more through their outfits. Expressing yourself through your outfit make people understood you more. Mufti days are fun because not like your usual school days, on mufti day you could wear anything you want. Having mufti day once a week is good because your school clothes sometimes get dirty and having a mufti day once a week lets you wash your school clothes. I suggest every school should have a mufti day once every fortnight or once every week.

Cats are better pet than dogs

In my opinion, I think that dogs are better pets than cats. If there's an intruder the dog could bark the intruder away and protect you. I think dogs are more intelligent than cats because you could train your dog to do things like dance, handshake, and more. Dogs are more playful and exciting.  Dogs help guard blind people. If you are looking to get a pet I suggest you get a dog as your pet.
